This $23 million renovation replaces of the eastern third of the two-story building while keeping the remaining functions operational.  The newly constructed east end expansion will house a major new exhibit with floor loading up to 2,500 psf.  A major challenge was replacing the foundations while the building was open to the public.  Construction began in May 2005 and is nearly complete.
