This $23 million renovation replaces of the eastern third of the two-story building while keeping the remaining functions operational.  The 1906 wharf structure was at risk of total failure in a major windstorm.  Over 900 failing piles were removed and replaced with 240 new concrete-filled steel piles and aprons.  Challenges included tight environmental restrictions on in-water work and dependency on tides and weather during the construction period.  Construction on this project began in May 2005 and is nearly complete.
